Leadership Independence
Established in 1984, Leadership Independence is a community leadership development program designed to identify, inspire and equip individuals who are interested in strengthening their leadership potential and becoming more engaged in the Independence community.
The mission of Leadership Independence is to provide a unique, collaborative and results-driven experience that strengthens the community by developing informed, connected and engaged leaders. Through the program, participants gain valuable leadership skills, build relationships with fellow class members and community leaders, and develop a greater understanding of the opportunities, challenges and resources within Independence.
Leadership Independence consists of eight monthly sessions, (2nd Thursday of each month) from September through April. Each session gives participants an inside look at different aspects of the community while providing opportunities for professional and personal growth, networking and hands-on learning.
The program concludes with a graduation banquet in April, celebrating participants’ accomplishments and encouraging them to put their Leadership Independence experience into action through continued involvement and service in the community.
